Badgers Ford places third at Austrian Open
AUSTRIA - The Brock University women's wrestling team had three student-athletes compete at the 2010 Austrian Open this past weekend.
Diana Ford (Kentville, NS) had one of her best international performances of her career as she captured the bronze medal at 51 kg winning two matches and losing one. Her only loss came in her first match where she lost to fellow Canadian Vanessa Brown in two rounds. She then went on to defeat J Madyarchyk from Great Britain and M Serrano from Spain to win the bronze medal.
Natasha Chang (Cayuga, Ont.) wrestled in her first International event overseas and did very well at 59 kg. Chang lost a close match to A Fajardo of Spain. After losing the first round Chang stormed back and was winning the second round when she was thrown and pinned.
The same happened to Laura Steffler (Whitby, Ont.) at 63 kg. In here match versus T Wittenwiller of Switzerland, she won the first round handily and then was in complete control of the second round when she was thrown and pinned. She finished in 10th place.
