Brock women's volleyball loses to Varsity Blues 3-0
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's volleyball team (2-2 OUA) lost in straight sets 25-17, 25-22 and 25-23 to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (5-0 OUA) Sunday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Badgers senior Ally Fast (St. Catharines, Ont.) registered her fourth double-double of the season with 23 assists and 10 digs. Senior Jennifer McKenzie (Surrey, BC) hammered nine kills, and senior Rachel Roorda (St. George, Ont.) registered eight kills with three blocks. Sophomore Lucy McLay (Stratford, Ont.) recorded six kills and seven digs. On defence, sophomore Kayla Donahue (Ajax, Ont.) was a standout with 14 digs.
The Varsity Blues had two players in double figures. Sophomore Charlotte Sider (Ottawa, Ont.) and junior Alexandra Hudson (Mississauga, Ont.) both recorded 11 kills and 10 digs. Defensively, the Varsity Blues were led by junior Melena Rapaport (Vancouver, B.C.) with 16 digs, and senior Katrina Rossall (Calgary, AB) with 12 digs.
The Badgers led late in the last two games but full credit must be given to the Varsity Blues defensive effort. Overall, the Varsity Blues had 59 digs and 11 solo blocks compared to 48 digs and six solo blocks for the Badgers.
On offence, the Badgers recorded 31 kills and 29 assists. The Blues had 37 kills and 36 assists.
The Badgers next action is Saturday, November 12 against Queen's University at 1 p.m. at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
