Women's Volleyball falls to Lions in five

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's volleyball team (5-5 OUA) ended the first half of the season with a 3-2 loss to the York Lions. After starting the season 1-3, Brock won four of their last six.

In Game Three, Brock trailed 23-16 before coming from behind to win the game 27-25 in exciting fashion to take a 2-1 match lead.

In Game Four with the score 24-23 for York, the Lions Kristina Vlcek came over the plain of the net not allowing Brock's Ally Fast to set the ball which ended in the point being awarded to York tying the match 2-2.

In the fifth and deciding game York prevailed 15-11 led by Player of the Game Sarah Sutton who finished with 17 kills and 14 digs for the double-double. Brock's Player of the Game was senior Katelyn Giesbrecht (Virgil, Ont.) who led the offense adding 16 kills with a .469 hitting percentage.  

Junior Shannon Anderson (Newmarket, Ont.) contributed with the double-double adding 16 kills and 13 digs while senior Erin Mercer (Rockwood, Ont.) added eight kills and 18 digs. Junior setter Ally Fast (St. Catharines, Ont.) recorded her ninth double-double of the season finishing with 46 assists and 12 digs in the loss.
