Women's Volleyball knocks off first place Marauders 3-1

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Sporting the new pink uniforms in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, the Brock University women's volleyball team (11-6 OUA) knocked off the first place McMaster Marauders 3-1 (25-18, 26-24, 22-25, 25-17) in front of over 650 in attendance Friday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Prior to the match, the Badgers honoured their three graduating players, Heather Potts (Nepean, Ont.), Erin Mercer (Rockwood, Ont.) and Kaila Wiley (Mississauga, Ont.).

Leading the Badgers offense was junior Shannon Anderson (Newmarket, Ont.) who registered a double-double adding 16 kills and 14 digs. For her performance, she was selected as the Badgers Player of the Game.

In her final regular season home game, Mercer contributed with 10 kills and 12 digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Junior Ally Fast (St. Catharines, Ont.) had a spectacular defensive match adding 21 digs. She also handed out 38 assists for the double-double.

For McMaster, Kaila Janssen recorded 14 kills, six digs and three block solos, earning her Player of the Game honours. Shannon McRobert contributed with 11 kills and five block solos in the loss.  

 The Badgers end the OUA regular season next weekend on the road when they take on Waterloo (Feb. 5) and Laurier (Feb. 6).
