Van Bakel named CIS 2nd Team All-Canadian
TORONTO - Brock University women's soccer player Cassandre Van Bakel (Aurora, Ont.) earned her first major post-season honour as she was selected as a CIS 2nd Team All-Canadian at the All-Canadian Banquet in Toronto Wednesday night.
Van Bakel led the team in scoring for her third straight season finishing the 2009 campaign with five goals including two game winners. The speedy striker also setup seven other Brock goals. In three seasons she is already the Badgers all-time leading scorer in school history with 17 career goals.
"Cassandre has been one of our team leaders for the past three seasons," said head coach Charles Ivanov. "Since her rookie season she has been one the fastest players in the OUA and has a natural touch for scoring. Her leadership and athleticism has been instrumental to our program's overall success."
In 2008 and 2009 she was named an OUA West First Team All-Star.
