No. 4 ranked Badgers tie Laurier 1-1

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The No. 4 ranked Brock University women's soccer team (2-0-1 OUA) got a late second half goal by third year forward Cassandre Van Bakel (Aurora, Ont.) which led to a 1-1 tie against the Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday afternooon in their homeopener.

Laurier opened the scoring midway through the first half as Ali McKee beat one Brock defender and buried a shot into the bottom left hand corner past Brock netminder Syreeta Rhoden (Niagara Falls, Ont.).

The Badgers could not get anything to bounce their way until late in the second half when junior forward Cassandre Van Bakel (Aurora, Ont.) buried a shot past Golden Hawks goalkeeper Mal Woeller for her first of the season and school leading 13th career goal. In just her third season Van Bakel is already the Badgers all-time leading scorer. Teammate Jill Geier ranks second all-time with 12 career goals.

In goal, Rhoden remained undefeated on the season registering eight saves. She is now 2-0-1 in three starts in 2009.
