Women's Soccer captures CIS Silver Medal

LANGLEY, BC - The Brock University women's soccer team (12-5-4) came up short in the CIS National Championship Final losing to the host No. 6 ranked Trinity Western Spartans by the score of 1-0. This is the best finish by the Brock women's soccer program and second best finish by a women's team in school history.

The lone goal came off of a TWU corner kick in the 41st minute. TWU midfielder Rebecca Ferguson sent a perfect curling ball to the near post. Dilling went high in the air and just beat Brock keeper Tiffany Scriver (Burlington, Ont.) to the ball to give the Spartans the eventual game winning goal.

Trinity Western Coach Graham Roxburgh gave credit to the Badgers for a hard fought game. "Brock has beaten a number of good teams just to get to this game and we knew that they were capable of winning.”

Both keepers made spectacular saves at critical times to keep the match close. Scriver, who was playing her final game of University after a stellar career, kept the Badgers in the game on a number of occasions.

Scriver was named to the All-Tournament team along with teammates Cassandra Van Bakel (Aurora, Ont.) and Stephanie DiMartino (Markham, Ont.)

Brock head coach had much to say of his Badgers at the conclusion of the game:

“ I'm very proud of the commitment and efforts of the players, the contribution of the whole coaching staff, Sherri-Leigh Vervaeke, John Durish, and David Rossi. Im proud of the assistance of the Athletic Department including our Sports Information Department with Shawn Whiteley and Paul Piscitelli, and our Athletic Director Lorne Adams. And I'm proud to be a Brock Badger.”

“I firmly believe that through the value of the soccer game we develop people and players. This week was a week of greatness. It will make a positive difference in their lives. They will always aim for this high standard in their life no matter what they do.”

So ends one of the most successful seasons in Brock University women’s soccer. The team will land in Ontario and be back to school sometime Monday morning.
