CIS Womens Soccer Championship Blog Day 5
LANGLEY, B.C. – Day 5 from Room 129
Room 129 here,
Today started off when we were startled into wakefulness by our
extremely loud and annoying wake up call via the phone. After
grudgingly opening our eyes and stumbling around for a few minutes
we each went our separate ways to find some breakfast. A short
while later we reunited in our room to settle down for some quiet
time before the big game. But quiet time was soon stricken from the
agenda when we heard muffled yells and screeches coming from across
the hall. Turned out our rowdy cross-hall teammates got a little
hyper and decided to jump on the beds a little wildly, squishing
each other in the process. Definitely a good way to be side tracked
from quiet time. We have hilarious teammates.
At 11:25am we loaded into our vans all dressed in our badger red
and made the short trip to Trinity Western. We were pleasantly
surprised upon discovery that our “change room” (which
on Wednesday was a little empty, unheated wood lined trailer with
no power) was now equipped with scattered chairs, heating and
electricity! But much to our chagrin we realized that we had left
our boom box behind because we were not expecting the electricity.
So we listened to our bumpin' beats from Senorita's stuffed
elephant which doubles as a speaker system. After the entire team
joined in singing “Our Song” by Taylor Swift our
coaches came in to give us a short pre-game speech which was
followed by our traditional singing of the Moose Song lead by
Senorita. We were ready. We trudged out to the field with our game
faces on and had a great warm up in surprisingly good weather; no
rain!
The game was a battle through and through. We give credit where
credit is due: Montreal was a great team, very physical, strong on
the ball and lightning quick. But they were no match for us! Sloan
started off the scoring in the first half with a nicely lofted ball
over the Carabin keeper's outstretched arms. We battled through the
rest of the game each team having great chances (another credit to
Montreal for hitting two crossbars). But it would be Laura's
perfectly placed free kick midway through the second half that
would carry us to the victory! We left the field thoroughly beat up
and exhausted but with smiling faces, proud of our 2-0 win. The
Brock Badgers, underdogs of the tournament, are going to play for
the gold medal tomorrow!
Upon arrival back at our hotel at 3:30pm we all went our separate
ways, some going to get food, some showering, some calling loved
ones…and other passing out on the comfy beds. We then had
free time for a few hours which was spent doing homework, relaxing
and mingling in each other's rooms. At 6:00pm we had our daily team
meeting where we discussed today's game and set the agenda for
tomorrow. It is 8:00pm now and we are going to a late team dinner
at 8:45pm which will be most kindly purchased by our wonderful
athletic director Lorne Adams! What a pleasant surprise! After
dinner is bed time and I'm sure we will have no
complaints…it's tiring being national finalists. ;)
Update on tomorrow's game: we will be playing Trinity Western on
their home turf at 3:30pm! None of us could be more pumped. We
worked so hard to get to this point and we plan on ending our
season on the ultimate high note. So bust out your shamrocks and
horse shoes (not that we really need them!) and think of us
tomorrow. We're going to the Ship!
You know you love us,
xoxo,
