Brock's Clause selected to attend Hockey Canada's Strength and Conditioning Camp
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team is proud to announce that senior goaltender Beth Clause (Hamilton, Ont.) has been selected to attend Hockey Canada's Strength and Conditioning Camp in Calgary.
Beth will be the first player in Brock history to attend a Hockey Canada Conditioning Camp.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Beth, to be recognized by the Hockey Canada staff for her achievements with our team and to give her an opportunity to take part in a camp of this nature is incredible," said Brock head coach Todd Erskine. "There are so many great goaltenders that Hockey Canada can choose from and Beth I know is looking forward to being among the best at her position."
In 2009-10 with the Badgers, Clause was selected as an OUA second team all-star after finishing the regular season with a single season high 822 saves while posting a 2.55 GAA and .924 save percentage. She ranked in the OUA top 10 in five categories including minutes played (1600 - 1st), saves (822 - 2nd), wins (11 - 5th), SV% (.924 - 6th) and GAA (2.55 - 8th). In her four year career, Clause has put up some of the best numbers in the OUA having registered 2807 career saves with an impressive 2.27 GAA and .929 SV%.
The strength and conditioning camp that will take place from May 25-30 at the University of Calgary. The camp will consist of five days of off-ice fitness training and is considered an important first step in identifying this country’s future women’s hockey stars, including those who could be in the running to represent Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Invitations were made based on evaluations done throughout the 2009-10 season by Hockey Canada’s regional scouts and the coaching staffs of Canada’s National Women’s Team, National Women’s Under-22 Team and National Women’s Under-18 Team. Those who were chosen to attend the off-ice camp were evaluated while they played with their club teams in-season, as well as at various national camps and events.
