Balanced offense leads Badgers past Waterloo 5-2

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (9-11-3 OUA) had five different goal scorers in their 5-2 victory over the Waterloo Warriors Friday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.

Waterloo opened the scoring 4:40 into the first period on a goal from Kelly MacLean. With just under two minutes left in the first period, Kelly Walker (Brampton, Ont.) and Courtney Stevens (Ottawa,Ont.) would setup Shannon McLeod (Port Dover, Ont.) on the power-play for her seventh goal of the season tying the game 1-1 after 20 minutes.

Midway through the second period, the Badgers would capitalize again with the man-advantage, as Walker beat Waterloo's Kahla Stern for her sixth goal of the campaign. McLeod and Amber Wilson (Brantford, Ont.) would add assists.

Waterloo's Randy Lynn Wilson would tie the game 2-2 with 7:13 left in the second period. Less than two minutes later, Brock would regain the one goal, 3-2, when Karolyn McIlmoyle (Newmarket, Ont.) and Michelle Lee (Innisfil, Ont.) setup Emily Hooper (Hamilton, Ont.) for her fourth goal of the season.

In the third period, Brock would answer with two more goals.  Six minutes into the period, Hailey Webb (Orillia, Ont.) found McIlmoyle, who would bury it behind Stern for her third of the campaign. With just over one minute left in regulation, the Badgers would add their third power-play goal of the game with a tally from Rachel Piatrowski (Waterloo, Ont.). McIlmoyle added an assist for her season high third point of the contest. 

In goal, Brock's Beth Clause (Hamilton, Ont.) recorded 14 saves for the victory. Stern turned aside 27 shots in the loss.

The Badgers next action is Saturday, January 30th at 7:30 pm when they host the No. 2 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
