Women's Hockey falls to Queen's 6-3

KINGSTON, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (8-11-3 OUA) lost for the first time in regulation this semester as they dropped a 6-3 decision to the Queen's Gaels Saturday afternoon on the road.

Queen's answered three times in the first period with goals from Morgan McHaffie, Kristin Smith and Alana Smith. Brock would get a late one in the first with 12 seconds remaining, as Kelly Walker (Brampton, Ont.) and Shannon McLeod (Port Dover, Ont.) set up Melissa Geary (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) for her third of the season to make it a 3-1 game.

Despite being outshot 14-3 in the second period, Brock would close the gap as Maggie Young (Tiverton, Ont.) beat Queen's netminder Karissa Savage to make it 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Just 1:42 into the third period, the Gaels would regain the two goal lead, 4-2, as M. McHaffie recorded her second goal of the afternoon and team leading 11th goal of the season.

The Badgers would answer back. With 12:23 remaining, McLeod and Geary setup Walker for her fifth of the campaign to make it a one goal game 4-3.

Less than a minute later, at 11:36, Queen's would answer right back as K. Smith registered her third assist and fourth point of the afternoon finding Brittany McGaffie for her sixth of the season.

With Clause pulled for the extra-attacker, Queen's Kelsey Thomson would add an insurance marker with the empty-netter.

In goal Clause recorded 31 saves in the loss including her 2500th career save.

The Badgers return home for two game during Breast Cancer Awareness Week. On January 29 at 7:30pm they host the Waterloo Warriors and on January 30th at 7:30pm they take on the No. 2 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks.
