Women's basketball downs RMC 79-42
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (1-2 OUA) rolled past the Royal Military College Paladins by the score of 79-42 Friday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
"Tonight we came together as a team after starting the regular season off with two close losses last weekend," said head coach Si Khounviseth. "We shot the ball a lot better and played our system pressuring the ball and forcing RMC to turnovers."
The Badgers opened the game with a 24-6 run in the opening quarter cruising to the 37-point victory. Brock forced the Paladins to 35 turnovers leading to 29 points off turnovers. The Brock bench outscored the RMC bench 38-4.
Brock shot a season high 38.9% from the field (28-for-72) while keeping RMC to a dismal 25.5 field goal percentage going 12-for-47.
The Badgers had three players in double figures led by junior Tara Giallonardo (Fonthill, Ont.) who recorded a career high 20 points including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Also in double digits were senior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) who added 15 points and junior Emily McKay (Toronto, Ont.) who contributed with 12 points and four steals. Junior Jessica Del Signore (Brantford, Ont.) chipped in with five points, six rebounds and a season high six assists in the victory.
Leading RMC was Carolyn Pumphrey who added 14 points and nine rebounds. Carley Lewis added the double-double finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Badgers next action is Saturday night at 6pm when they host the Queen's Gaels at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
