Women's Basketball falls to Ryerson 69-51
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (7-2 overall, 5-1 OUA) had their five game conference winning streak come to an end as they dropped a 69-51 decision to the Ryerson Rams at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
To open the second quarter, Ryerson went on a 12-0 run over the first four minutes to extend their lead to 14 points 28-14 which the Badgers could not recover from.
With three minutes left in the third quarter, Brock found themselves down by as many as 25 points 50-25. The Badgers would not go away making a strong comeback with a 14-0 run of their own over the next six minutes closing the gap to 11 points 50-39 with 7:22 remaining. Brock would not be able to bring it within single digits as the Rams hot shooting continued leading by as many as 19 points 61-40 with 3:30 left.
Ryerson had four players in double digits led by Lisa Goldring who recorded nine of her game high 16 points from beyond the arc going 3-for-5. Ashley MacDonald contributed with 15 points and six rebounds while Angela Tilk added 12 points and seven boards in the victory.
Leading Brock was junior Hillary Woodside (Fall River, NS) who recorded 13 points while Emily McKay (Toronto, Ont.) finished with 10 points in the loss.
Ryerson shot 44.2% (23-for-52) from the field which included 44.4% (8-for-18) from three-point land. Brock shot just 32.4% (22-for-68) from the floor including a dismal 13.3% (2-for-15) from beyond the arc.
The Badgers next action is November 27th and 28th when they travel to Kingston to take on the Queen's Gaels and RMC Paladins.
