Brock Women's Basketball announces four recruits for 2010-11

Brock University head coach Si Khounviseth is pleased to announce four new recruits for the 2010-11 season.

The talented recruiting class includes Chloe Eberwein (Belleville, Ont.), Andrea Polischuk (Brantford, Ont.), Jessica Ramkeeson (Markham, Ont.) and Emily Voisin (Waterloo, Ont.).

“We are extremely excited about this recruiting class,” said Khounviseth. “It addresses a lot of our need for size and will help us with our rebounding. Our transition will be improved and gives us flexibility both on defense and offense.”

Eberwein, a 6-foot-2 forward, comes to Brock from Belleville where she attended Moira Secondary School. In her senior year, Eberwein was selected to the Bay of Quinte All-Star Team. She also played club ball for the Belleville Spirits earning the Coach’s Award in 2007 and Team MVP in 2008.

"I chose Brock because not only does it offer my program of choice, Concurrent Education, but also the school has such a beautiful campus and atmosphere,” said Eberwein. ”Brock stood out among all other school to me and I knew as soon as I stepped on the campus it was a new place for me to call home. I also have the opportunity to play on a great basketball team. I can see these next few years at Brock being some of the best times of my life."

“Chloe is a very mobile and athletic post player with good fundamentals,” said Khounviseth. “She has excellent all around skills as she was coached by her dad Tim Eberwein to be a complete player. She will have to get used to the physical play and speed at this level but we believe she has to tools to be an impact player. She is a hard worker and bright student. Chloe addresses a big void in our line up and we are excited she is coming to Brock to pursue her post secondary education.”

Polischuk, a 5-foot-10 athletic versatile forward, will look to add to her strong basketball resume at the next level when she suits up for the Badgers this fall.

At St. John’s College in Brantford Polischuk was coached by Brock basketball alumni Steve Vanleeuwen. This past season St. John’s went undefeated with a perfect 45-0 record capturing the AAAA OFSSA championship. She also was part of four consecutive city titles and two CWOSSA titles. She was a three-time Tournament MVP and three-time tournament all-star in 2009.

At the club level, she was coached by Hugo Degrandis as a member of the Brantford CYO and Briers club teams who captured two provincial gold medals.

“Brock is the best fit for me because I love the smaller campus and how the buildings and residences are closer together,” said Polischuk. “I have heard nothing but good things about Brock and they have the academic program I am looking for. Whenever I have visited, I have felt right at home and I know I can do well there.  I really like Brock's up tempo basketball program. It fits my style of play. I really like the coaching staff and the players I have spoken to were a great help.”

“Andrea is a versatile player who knows and understands how to compete and win,” explained Khounviseth. “We believe she has the ability to be an excellent CIS player. She is a player coaches don’t have to worry about and sometimes you forget she is on floor as she gives you effort and just plays smart and steady.

Jessica Ramkeeson a 6-foot-0 athletic forward comes to Brock University from Markham where she played five seasons at Markham District High School. She currently plays on one of the top club teams in the province with the Advantage Titans coached by Chris Smalling who does a great job of getting his players ready for the next level.

In her senior year at Markham District, Ramkeeson led her team to a silver medal in the YRAA Championship. She was selected as a 2008 Toronto Star Regional All-Star. In 2009 she led her team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals.

“I feel that Brock is a perfect fit for me and offers all the things that I want from a university for academics as well as a great basketball team,” said Ramkeeson. “I am extremely excited to be going to Brock.”

“Jessica is strong and athletic player who can play both inside and outside,” said Khounviseth. “We are excited about having her come to Brock. Jessica turned several D1 scholarship offers to remain closer to home. She is the type of player that can have an impact at both ends of the floor.”

Emily Voisin, a 5-8 versatile guard comes to the Badgers from Kitchener where she attended Forest Heights High School and played club ball for the KW Lightning coached by Allan Bush.

In high school, Voisin was a four-sport athlete competing in basketball, volleyball, rugby and wrestling. As a junior she was named MVP for basketball and rugby while earning the coach’s award in volleyball. She was nominated for Female Athlete of the Year.

For club she was a member of the KW Lightning Team that won the 2009 OBA Provincial Championships. She also won the division scoring title as a member of the Waterloo Hawks rep team that went a perfect 18-0 in 2009.

"I decided to choose Brock because it was the perfect fit for me,” said Voisin. “It had the program that I wanted, the campus is beautiful and the facilities are new and modern. I also like the fact that the Brock team plays the same style of basketball that I have always loved, defense, defense, defense. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to play at the next level."

“Emily has the ability to defend multiple positions and is an intelligent player who competes hard and understands how to win,” said Khounviseth.  “Her passion, desire and motivation will serve her well playing at the CIS level.”
