Women's Basketball falls to Lancers 73-65 in OUA West Semi-Finals
WINDSOR, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (13-9 OUA West, 1-1 playoffs) had their season come to an end Saturday night on the road as they dropped a 73-65 decision to the No. 2 nationally ranked Windsor Lancers in the OUA West Semi-Finals.
Brock 36-33 at the half, before the strong Lancers squad came out flying in the third quarter outscoring the Badgers 33-12 leading 66-48 after 30 minutes.
Leading the Badgers offense was senior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) who recorded 22 points and five rebounds including going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Tara Giallonardo (Fonthill, Ont.) contributed with 14 points while senior Lauren Stewart (Hamilton, Ont.) ended her university career with 13 points and four assists.
Windsor had three players in double figures led by Shavaun Reaney who registered 18 points and six assists while going 3-for-6 from three-point range. Jessica Clemencon added 15 points and eight rebounds while Emily Abbott chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
The Lancers shot 37.7% (26-for-69) from the field, which included 34.6% (9-for-26) from beyond the arc. Brock finished the contest shooting 31.8% (21-for-66) from the field and 37.5% (9-for-24) from long range. They also shot a season high 87.5% (14-for-16) from the charity stripe. For the third time this season Windsor used their size inside outrebounding the Badgers 47-30.
