Women's Basketball falls to Mustangs 71-51

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (10-7 OUA) lost to the Western Mustangs by the score of 71-51 at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Wednesday night.

After leading 39-32 at the half, the Badgers scored just 12 points in the second half, including a season low four points in the third quarter. Brock shot a dismal 13.6% (3-for-22) in the final 20 minutes.

Brock led 41-39 with 5:36 remaining in the third quarter, before the Mustangs would put together a 12-2 run in the final five minutes leading 51-43 after three quarters.

Western would continue to produce on offense opening the first four minutes of the fourth quarter with a 14-4 run, leading by as many as 18 points, 65-47, with 5:47 left in regulation.

Leading the Mustangs was Rebecca Moss who registered the double-double adding a game high 17 points and 15 rebounds. Amanda Anderson contributed with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Lauren Parkes chipped in with 12 points and seven boards.

Brock had three players in double figures led by senior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) who finished with 12 points. Also in double digits were senior Lauren Stewart (Hamilton, Ont.) and junior Hillary Woodside (Fall River, NS) who contributed with 10 points each in the loss.

The Badgers next action is Saturday, February 6th at 1:00 pm when they host the McMaster Marauders at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
