Woodside leads Badgers over Guelph 63-42
GUELPH, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (10-6 OUA) defeated the Guelph Gryphons by the score of 63-42 on the road Saturday afternoon.
With the score tied 16-16 midway through the second quarter, Brock would put together a 13-3 run over the final five minutes leading by ten, 29-19, at the half.
Brock led by eight points midway through the third quarter 35-27. Over the next two and a half minutes, the Badgers would go on a 10-0 run, which included back-to-back three-pointers from junior Hillary Woodside (Fall River, NS), extending their lead to 18 points, 45-27.
Woodside registered her first double-double of the season adding a game high 14 points and career best 11 rebounds. She also continued to be one of the Badgers top threats from beyond the arc connecting on 4-of-7. This season Woodside has shot 45.3% (24-for-53) from three-point range.
Also in double figures for Brock was Emily McKay (Toronto, Ont.) who contributed with 12 points and three steals. Senior Britt Pegg (Weyburn, Sask.) added nine points while freshman Hayley Neal (Mississauga, Ont.) recorded a career high eight points and four steals in the victory.
For the Gryphons, Alex Yallin recorded 14 points and eight rebounds. Also in double digits was Jasmine Douglas who added 10 points and a game high 13 rebounds for the double-double. Douglas also registered a season high six blocks.
The Badgers next action is Wednesday, February 3rd at 6:00 pm when they host the Western Mustangs at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
