Women's Basketball falls to No. 2 Lancers 72-50
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (8-6 OUA) dropped a 72-50 decision against the No. 2 ranked Windsor Lancers at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Brock cut the lead to 10, 43-33, with 6:57 left in the third quarter. In the final six minutes of the quarter, the experienced Windsor squad would go on a 19-5 run leading by as many as 24 points after 30 minutes.
Brock struggled offensively shooting just 28.3% (17-for-60) from the field, their second lowest total of the season. Windsor shot 45.2% (28-for-62) from the floor while also outrebounding the Badgers by a 49-28 margin. It two games this season, the Lancers used their size to their advantage almost doubling up the Badgers on the boards 110-59.
Leading the Lancers offense was Jessica Clemencon who led all scorers with a game high 21 points and nine rebounds. Emily Abbott contributed with 16 points while Shavaun Reaney and Raelyn Prince chipped in with 10 points each in the victory.
The Badgers had two players in double figures led by senior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) recording 16 points and seven rebounds. Britt Pegg (Weyburn, Sask.) contributed with 10 points and a career high eight steals.
Brock's next action is Wednesday, January 27th at 8pm when they play host to the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Bob Davis Gymnasium. That night is THINK PINK Breast Cancer Awareness Night and the Jason Pearson Scholarship Game.
