Women's Basketball falls to Marauders 71-65

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (7-4 OUA) dropped their second straight regular season contest Wednesday on the road falling to the McMaster Marauders by the score of 71-65.

Brock led by seven points 53-46 after three quarters before being outscored 25-12 in the final frame.

Brock was led by senior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) who added 20 points and six rebounds.  Sophomore Emily McKay (Toronto, Ont.) added 16 points and four rebounds. The Badgers top two three-point shooters Hillary Woodside (Fall River, NS) and Jessica Del Signore (Brantford, Ont.), who had combined for 32 three-pointers at 44.4% (32-for-72) on the season, did not attempt a three-pointer the entire contest.

Leading the Marauders was senior Taylor Smith who recorded a game high 22 points while adding eight rebounds and six assists. Taylor Chiarot contributed with 20 points, six rebounds and four blocks. She finished the contest going 10-for-14 from the field. Rounding out the McMaster leaders was Rebecca Rewi who chipped in with 12 points.

The Marauders shot 42.6% (26-for-61) from the floor while Brock was 40.4% (23-for-57) from the field.  McMaster also outrebounded the Badgers 41-32.

The Badgers next action is Saturday, January 16th when they travel to London to take on the Western Mustangs at 1pm.
