Women's Basketball drops 71-58 decision to Queen's

KINGSTON, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (6-2 OUA West) ended the first half of the OUA season with a 71-58 loss to the Queen's Gaels.

With the score tied 37-37 at the half, the Gaels came out flying in the third quarter outscoring the Badgers 19-9 to take a 56-46 after thirty minutes on route to the 13 point victory. Queen's also used their size to their advantage dominating the boards 56-39.

Leading the way for Queen's was Brittany Moore who led all scorers with 21 points and eight rebounds. Katie Guthrie registered the double-double finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Also in double digits were Maddie Soye and Christine Wallace who contributed with 12 and 10 points respectively. Wallace also pulled down 10 boards for the double-double.

Sophomore Tara Giallonardo (Fonthill, Ont.) led the Badgers with a season high 14 points. Sophomore Emily McKay (Toronto, Ont.) recorded her first career double-double adding 12 points and a career high 11 rebounds. Also in double figures were senior Lauren Stewart (Hamilton, Ont.) and sophomore Jessica Del Signore (Brantford, Ont.) who finished with 10 points each in the loss.

Brock shot just 32.4 percent (23-for-71) from the field while the Gaels were 43.1 percent (28-for-65).

The Badgers next action is December 28th-30th when they take part in the University of Montreal Holiday Tournament before opening the second half of the OUA season at home on January 6th when they host the Waterloo Warriors.
