Women's Basketball downs RMC 86-43
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball
team (3-2 OUA West) captured their third straight conference win
with an 86-43 victory over the Royal Military College Paladins.
Brock led 13-9 with four minutes left in the first quarter, before
going on a 21-3 run over the next nine minutes, leading 34-12 with
five minutes left in the first half.
In the third quarter, Brock almost doubled their lead, as they
outscored the Paladins 27-6 going up by as many as 45 points,
leading 71-26 after thirty minutes.
The Badgers had a balanced offense as all 12 players scored in the
game. Junior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) continued to lead the
offense finishing with 14 points going 6-for-9 from the field.
Sophomore Hillary Woodside (Fall River, NS) contributed with 13
points and eight rebounds, while senior Lauren Stewart (Hamilton,
Ont.) and sophomore Devyn Cuncic (Hamilton, Ont.) rounded out the
Brock leaders chipping in with nine points each in the victory.
The lone RMC player in double figures was Anna Dupuis who recorded
a game high 17 points.
Brock shot a season high 48.1% from the field connecting on
37-of-77 while keeping RMC to just 32.1% (18-for-56). The Badgers
were also an impressive 6-for-11 (54.5%) from beyond the arc.
The strong and quick Badgers defense was also able to force RMC to
turn the ball over 42 times. Brock outscored RMC 46-9 in points off
turnovers.
The Badgers next action is Saturday, November 15th at 6:00pm when
they host the Queen's Golden Gaels.
