Brock Women place 6th at OUA Swimming Championships, Men 10th

GUELPH, Ont. - The Brock University women's swim team placed 6th overall and the men's team was 10th at the 2011 OUA Swimming Championships hosted by the University of Guelph.  

In one of her top performances of the season, Delia Caughlin broke the Brock record and was just .12 seconds shy of medalling in the 50m breaststroke placing 4th overall (33.58), a CIS qualifying time. She also placed 10th in the 100m breaststroke (1:14.30) and 12th in the 200m breaststroke (2:43.69). 

Senior captain Victoria Culp finished the meet with three Top 10 performances. She finished 7th in the 800 freestyle (9:08.34) and was 10th in both the 200 freestyle (2:06.13) and 400 freestyle (4:25.49). 

Three other Brock swimmers finished with three top 16 performances including Holly Hopkins, Baylee Colquhoun and Emily Welham.

Hopkins placed 11th in the 200m backstroke (2:21.92), 13th in the 100m backstroke (1:05.85) and 15th in the 50m backstroke (31.67). Colquhoun finished 14th in the 400 IM (5:17.20), 16th in the 400m freestyle (4:31.81), and 16th in the 200 IM (2:31.55). Welham placed 14th in both the 50m breaststroke (35.75) and 200m breaststroke (2:44.62) and was also 15th in the 100m breaststroke (1:17.18).

Lisa McCann and Cora Michener both had two top 16 finishes. McCann placed 10th in the 400 IM (5:10.67) and 14th in the 800m freestyle (9:26.83). Michener was 12th in the 800m freestyle (9:17.01) and 13th in the 400m freestyle (4:28.56). 

Other top Brock finishes were Katie So (11th - 200m Fly (2:26.13), Ashley Duquette (15th - 200m backstroke (2:26.10) and Jade Watts (16th - 200m backstroke (2:28.30)

In the relay events, the Brock women collected 136 points placing 5th in three events and 6th in two others. They also set three new Brock records in the 200m Free Relay, 800 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay.

They placed 5th overall in the 400 Freestyle Relay (4:01.08) (Culp, So, McCann and Cora Michener), 5th in the 200 Medley Relay (2:01.99) (Hopkins, Caughlin, So and Erica Dugas) and 5th in the 800 Freestyle Relay (8:36.42) (Culp, Michener, Colquhoun and Duquette).

The Badger women were also 6th in the 400 Medley Relay (4:25.70) (Hopkins, Caughlin, So and Culp) and 6th in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:52.23) (McCann, Dugas, Watts and  Jillian Bekker).

For the Brock men, their top performance came in the 200 Medley Relay where they finished 7th overall (1:52.59) (Eliott Dumitru, Alexander Ivancic, Frank Woodley and Scott Bacani).  They were also 10th in the 400 Free Relay (3:43.11) and 11th in the 200 Free Relay (1:41.67).
