Badger Womens Swimming Takes Second at 2009 Eynon Divisional Championships
The Brock Badger swimmers put forth their fastest times of the season to date while racing three days in Ottawa November 13th-15th. On Friday the team raced the University of Ottawa in a closely contested dual meet; then carried on to race the next two days at the Eynon Divisional Champs hosted by Ottawa. The competition featured six of the other OUA teams.
The Badger women swam solidly to take second at the Divisionals meet behind powerhouse Western, their best finish at this level in many years. They were also able to win in the dual with Ottawa on the Friday. The small men’s team was defeated by a strong Ottawa men’s squad on Friday, but managed a 5th place showing at the Divisional Championships meet, already showing improvement over last season.
Highlight for the Badger women was a new all-time Badger record in the 200 Free Relay, with Victoria Culp, Ilana Romanow, Katie So, and freshman Lisa McCann lowering the mark set just last season.
Individually at the Divisional Championships Victoria Culp took gold in the 200 Free for Brock’s only winning performance. Victoria also added a pair of Silvers behind ex-CIS Champion Brittany Cooper of Western in the 400 and 800m distances. Lisa McCann added a top-3 finish in the 400 IM, as well as another pair of top-8 finishes.
Also cracking the top-8 in at least one individual event at the Divisionals meet were Delia Caughlin, Baylee Colquhoun, Holly Hopkins, Cora Michener, Romanow, and So for the women; and Eliott Dumitru, Keith van Hemmen, and Frank Woodley for the men.
Badger Swimming’s next action is in hosting the Brock Cup on Saturday November 28th at Brock; with Laurentian, Queens, McMaster, Trent, Wilfrid Laurier, and York all in attendance.
