Badger Swimming Kicks Off the Season October 17th-18th
The Brock Badgers Swim Team kicked off their 2009-2010 season competing at Guelph this past Saturday and at home on Sunday. The Guelph Gryphons hosted six teams including the Badgers at the Sprint Invitational, the first of the two competitions.
Many of the athletes performed better than expected at this point in the season. Ilana Romanow finished seventh in the 100m Individual Medley (IM) and sixth in the 50m Breaststroke. Victoria Culp placed sixth in the 50m Freestyle while Amanda Schmitke placed fourth. One of the teams' first year swimmers, Lisa McCann, swam very well making it to the Semi-Finals in every race she swam.
The Women's Relay teams performed very well placing fourth in the 200m Freestyle Relay, third in the 400m Medley Relay (Holly Hopkins, Emily Welham, Katie So, Lisa McCann). The 400m Freestyle Cresendo Relay with Erica Dugas, Amanda Schmitke, Cora Michener and Victoria Culp finished 2nd.
Sunday October 18th, Brock hosted McMaster University and the University of Waterloo. The Women's Relay teams once again performed well finishing second in both the 200m Medley Relay (Hopkins, Romanow, So, Schmitke) and the 200m Freestyle Relay (Schmitke, Romanow, Dugas, Culp). Culp finished first in the 400m Free and second in the 100m Free while McCann placed third in the 400m Free and second in the 200m IM. Romanow also had another great day finishing first in the 200m IM and third in the 100m Backstroke.
The Badgers compete next at McMaster on October 31st.
