Brock rowers celebrate Canada Day with second win at Henley

ENGLAND - The Brock University Men’s Rowing heavyweight 8+ celebrated Canada Day in style at the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta as they defeated Grand Valley State University of Michigan in a time of 7:08 advancing them to the quarter final round Friday. Tomorrow Brock will face Queens University Belfast with time to be announced.

Conditions were extremely windy with a strong head wind making it a long race. The Badgers had a strong start in the sheltered start zone and then battled a lot of gusts to maintain their lead to the finish.

The day had started with the crew meeting their sponsors from Aberdeen Asset Management.

The Brock crew is comprised of coxswain Alexsia Dekaneas (Ancaster, Ont), stroke Ben Cushnie (Fonthill, Ont.), Brendan Coffey (Fonthill, Ont.), Keegan Drummond (Quispamsis, NB), Thomas Morley (St. Catharines, Ont.), Joshua Gracin (Welland, Ont.), Travis King (St.Catharines, Ont.), Corey Brunton (St. Catharines, Ont.), Sylas Coletto (Vineland, Ont.) and Patrick O’Connor (Toronto, Ont.).

The Temple Challenge Cup is a collegiate level event attended by the best collegiate crews from around the world, as well as in the United Kingdom. Crews compete down 2100m in dual races (2 boats side-by-side) with single elimination (instead of the 6 boat racing as seen in the Olympics).
