Brock Mens and Womens Lightweight 4 capture gold at Nationals
MONTREAL – The Brock University men’s and
women’s lightweight four crews both captured gold at the 2009
Canadian University Rowing Championships Sunday in Montreal. Both
Brock teams captured bronze in the overall team totals.
The women’s lightweight four of Kate Nay (St. Catharines,
Ont.), Keelin Greenlaw (Halifax, NS), Rebecca Gregory (Brampton,
Ont.), Alison Thomas (St. Catharines, Ont.), and coxie Michelle
Head (Hamilton, Ont.) placed first in a time of 7:52.8, followed by
Queen's (7:53.0) and McGill (7:56.3).
The men’s lightweight four composed of Ben Cushnie (Pelham,
Ont.), Brendon Coffey (Fonthill, Ont.), Corey Brunton (St.
Catharines, Ont.), Travis King (St. Catharines, Ont.) and coxie
Alexsia Dekaneas (Ancaster, Ont.) were also victorious with a
winning time of 6:49.9, followed by UBC (6:51.1) and Victoria
(6:51.9).
Other Brock medalists were Travis King who placed second in the
men’s lightweight single (07:49.0), and Shannon Van Baalen
(Wellandport, Ont.) and Stephanie Mowder (St. Catharines, Ont.) who
placed third in the women’s pair (08:15.0).
Placing fourth were Mike Lewis (Dorchester, Ont.) and Clark Tyler
(Mississauga, Ont.) in the men’s double (07:39.0) and Rebecca
Gregory and Claire Kilgallon in the lightweight women’s
double (08:03.0).
