Brock rowers show strong at Head of the Charles

Brock Rowing had a great weekend at the world's largest two day regatta. The Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston MA is an international event attracting over 7500 competitors from around the world. Brock was the top Canadian crew in all three events they raced. This was in spite of some of the worst weather ever seen at the regatta. The day started with rain but all the crews raced in a snow storm making it very uncomfortable and challenging especially for the coxswains to stay warm enough to function.

The women's lightweight eight placed 4th after starting in the second last poll position. The winners of the event were the other Badgers from Wisconsin last years IRA champions. The Brock boat had Carla Edwards as coxswain, Kate Nay in stroke, Keelin Greenlaw, Jenna Burke, Rebecca Gregory, Alison Thomas, Natasha Eikelenboom, Michele Head, and Teresa Miele. The lightweight events are open to non university crews so the Brock women were the third fastest university crew in their division.

The women's heavy crew racing in the women's collegiate eight event came in 5th the same position as last year. The Brock crew had Ariana Fiocca as coxswain, Britt Ellis, Shannon VanBaalen, Stephanie Mowder, Amy Rapattoni, Jessica Busch, Courtney Wilson, Megan Tucker, Allie Golding,

The men's lightweight crew finished 7th 4 seconds ahead of the McGill crew that won the Brock invitational a week earlier. The fastest University eight in the men's light eight event was Princeton University who won the IRA championships last spring. The Brock crew had Karlene Willmott as coxswain, Ben Cushnie in stroke, Travis King, Corey Machesney, Eric Woelfl, Corey Brunton,  Brendan Coffey, John Pollock, and Sylas Coletto.

The team will be racing again this weekend in Port Dalhousie at the OUA Championship regatta which is hosted by Brock. Finals are expected to start at noon. The complete schedule will be posted on www.gobadgers.ca.
