Brock rowers open season with strong performance at Western invitational

LONDON, Ont. - The Brock University men's and women's rowing team opened the 2009 season with a strong overall performance at the Western Invitational Regatta. The Brock women captured three first, two second and one third place finish. The Brock men placed second overall in two events.

For the Brock women, Claire Kilgallon had a strong individual performance placing first overall in the Ltwt. Women's Single. 

Also placing first was the Ltwt. women's eight crew comprised of Beth Nelson, Teresa Miele, Natasha Eikelenboom, Alison Thomas, Rebecca Gregory, Jenna Burke, Keelin Greenlaw, Kate Nay, cox and Carla Edwards.

The Hvy. Women's four of Megan Tucker, Shawn Bright, Emily Miller, Emily Skinner and cox Vicky Grygar also looked impressive early in the season placing first overall.

Rounding out the Brock women top performances were the Hvy. Women's eight (Stephanie Mowder, Shannon Van Baalen, Britt Ellis, Daniel Wiesner, Jessica Busch, Courtney Wilson, Amy Rapattoni, Allie Golding and cox Arianna Fiocca) and Ltwt. Women's four (Teresa Hill, Jen Howard, Nicole McClure, Maddie Wiseman and cox Caroline DeRose) who both placed second overall.

For the men, placing second overall was the Hvy. Men's eight; Kevin Anstruther, Mike Flynn, Mike Lewis, Jake martens, Ian Macleod, Thomas Morley, Pat O'Connor, Clark Tyler and cox Sia Dekaneas. The Ltwt. Men's four made up of Raja Yara, Jack Pearson, Eamon Doorly, Chris Baxter and cox Mike Scarlett also captured silver.
