Brock Men's and Women's Wrestling repeats as OUA Champions
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - At the 2009 OUA Wrestling Championships
hosted by Brock University, the Badger men captured their 15th
straight OUA crown, while the Brock women won their second straight
OUA title and eighth in the past nine years.
The Brock men finished with 83 team points with all 10 wrestlers
advancing to the CIS National Championships in Calgary at the end
of the month.
The Badgers C.J. Hudson (Calgary, Alta.) (61 kg), Pete Simons
(Campbellford, Ont.) (65 kg) and Alex Brown (Ottawa, Ont.) (82 kg)
all repeated as OUA champions in their respective weight classes.
Randy Pfrimmer (Oshawa, Ont.) (68 kg), who was named OUA Rookie of
the Year, and Brad Trimble (Essex, Ont.) (76 kg) also took home
gold.
Aaron Fabiano (Windsor, Ont.) (54 kg), Tim Clement (Barrie, Ont.)
(57 kg), Paul Rabjohn (Ajax, Ont.) (90 kg) and Phil Vandenbeukel
(Grimsby, Ont.) (130 kg) all captured silver medals while Scott
Hall (Orangeville, Ont.) (76 kg) rounded out the Badgers lineup
with a bronze medal finish.
The Brock women finished with 51 team points with six wrestlers
advancing to the Nationals.
Michelle Fazzari (Caledonia, Ont.) (59 kg) captured her fourth
consecutive OUA individual title. Jasmine Mian (Barrie, Ont.) (48
kg) and Celeste Rodrigues (Sudbury, Ont.) (63 kg) both captured
their first OUA gold.
Kelly McNiven (Beamsville, Ont.) (55 kg) and Jocelyn Dresser
(Tottenham, Ont.) (82 kg) both won silver while Deborah Jehu
(Greenbank, Ont.) advanced to the Nationals with a bronze medal
finish at 72 kg.
Head Coach Marty Calder was named both the OUA Men's and Women's
Coach of the Year. He has now been named OUA Men's Coach of the
Year six times and women's three times.
