Men's soccer earns a draw on the road against Guelph
GUELPH, Ont. - The Brock Badgers men's soccer team (2-7-1 OUA) picked up one point in the standings as they earned a 1-1 draw on the road against the Guelph Gryphons Sunday.
The Badgers goal came from rookie defender Anthony Frucci (St. Catharines, Ont.). Frucci's first goal in a Brock uniform came in the 45th minute, and even the contest at 1-1. Guelph's Robbie Murphy opened the scoring in the game in the 25th minute.
There was no scoring in the second half, though not for lack of trying. Late in the game the Badgers applied the pressure looking to score the go-ahead goal but were unable to find the back of the net. Guelph's Murphy also had a clean break with under five minues to play but was turned away by Badger keeper Ryan Toale (Brampton, Ont.). Toale made 14 saves in the game, while his teammates peppered the Gryphon keeper, Brydon Fry, with eight shots.
With the single point the Badgers find themselves alone in 7th place in the OUA West, five points out of the final play-off spot with six games remaining in the season.
The Badgers are in action next October 9th when they host the York Lions. Kick-off from the Brock soccer field is 3:15 p.m.
