Men's Soccer ends pre-season with 3-0 record

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock men's soccer team wrapped up a perfect preseason with a 6-1 victory over the Sheridan Bruins Sunday. The win sends the Badgers into league play on a three game winning streak.

The first half saw a back and forth defensive contest.  Scoring chances were slim but the Badgers were able to notch the lone marker of the half on a 25-yard free kick off the foot of Kosta Krajisnik (Niagara Falls, Ont.).

The Badgers started the second half strong and maintained pressure throughout.  The squad scored five second half goals in wearing down a tough Sheridan Bruins squad.  Pacing the team in the second half were two goals from redshirt freshman Erik Van Wissen (Milton, Ont.).  Also finding the back of the net in the second half were Marco Mascetelli (Welland, Ont.), Andres Nimtsiv and freshman Pedro Baros (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

Sheridan was able to capitalize on a rare defensive lapse by the Badgers in the 89th minute for their lone goal of the match.

"Defense has been a strength of this team for a long time and the boys continued this all preseason," said Badgers head coach Bill Millar. "What they did very well in this game and the previous two was put together a strong, focused effort on both ends of the pitch.  If we can continue through our season, we should be able to make teams pay attention to our squad."

The win leaves the Badgers with a 3-0 preseason record after wins over Niagara College and Centennial College.  In the three game stretch Brock's charges outscored their opponents by a combined 17-1.

The Badgers open their conference schedule September 4 against the UOIT Ridgebacks.  Kick-off is 1:00pm at tbe Brock Sports Field.
