Men's Soccer drops 3-1 decision to Gryphons
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's soccer team (1-5-1 OUA West) dropped their fourth straight losing by the score of 3-1 against the first place and No. 7 rankesd Guelph Gryphons at home Saturday afternoon. With the victory Guelph improves to 5-1-1.
The Badgers played the Gryphons tough in the first 45 minutes as they went into the half tied 0-0.
In the second half, the Gryphons came out flying and answered three minutes in (48th) as Robert Murphy beat Brock goalkeeper Ryan Toale for his third of the season. Just under six minutes later (53rd) Murphy would add his second of the game and fourth of the campaign putting Guelph up 2-0. He is now tied for fourth in OUA scoring.
Brock would look to answer in the second half, but it was the strong play of the Gryphons defense denying the Badgers who would only get five shots on goal in the contest.
In the 67th minute, Jurgen Koehler would beat Toale bottom left hand corner for his first goal of the season.
Brock sophomore Andrew Nimtsiv (Courtice, Ont.) added his first goal of the season in the 89th minute breaking Adam Jovanovic's shutout.
