Brock men's rugby blanks Hawks 18-0 in home opener

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's rugby team (1-0 OUA) opened the 2011 season with an 18-0 shutout victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks (0-1 OUA) in front of a capacity crowd of 1,546 Isaac's Army followers.

The Badgers opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a penalty kick by senior Zack Lamacraft (Pickering, Ont.). Six minutes later, senior Matt Alexander (Oshawa, Ont.) recorded his first try of the season with a run from 30 yards out.

Seven minutes into the second half, senior Ty Riddick (Toronto, Ont.) pounded through the Laurier defenders to score Brock's second try and his first of the campaign.

Senior Hugh McDonell (Brantford, Ont.) closed out the Brock scoring with a try in the 62nd minute to seal the victory.

The Badgers next action is when they travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons on September 16th at 8 p.m.
