Brock crowned CUFLA National Champions with 12-11 victory over McMaster

OTTAWA - The Brock University men's lacrosse team (13-0 CUFLA) ended their perfect season with a 12-11 victory over the McMaster Marauders in the championship game Sunday afternoon at Carleton University being crowned the 2009 CUFLA National Champions. The Badgers lacrosse dynasty have captured 18 Baggataway Cups in the 25 year history of Canadian University Lacrosse.
Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, Ont.) was named the Player of the Game. Freshman standout goalkeeper Brett Kikot (Toronto, Ont.) was named the Championship MVP registering 32 saves in two games with a .681 SV%. Kikot ends his freshman season with a perfect 11-0 record with an impressive 6.27 GAA in 880 minutes.
"We were prepared as a team going into the championship weekend and the guys came to play," said first year head coach Justin Kennedy. "The entire team knows what it means to be part of the rich winning tradition at Brock and were focused on bringing the cup back to St. Catharines which they accomplished."
Leading the Badgers offense were MacLeod and junior Chris Nash (Toronto, Ont.) who recorded five points each. MacLeod added three goals and two assists including the eventual game winner while Nash contributed with a game high four goals and one helper. Freshman Dustin Dunn (Peterborough, Ont.) added two goals and one assist for a three-point game with senior Matt Evans (Peterborough, Ont.) chipping in with two goals to round out the Brock leaders.
In the 25-year history of Canadian University Lacrosse, the Badgers have captured 18 Baggataway Cup Championships (1986, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009).
