Strong second half leads Badgers over Laurier 13-11
KITCHENER, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team (4-0 CUFLA) extended their win streak to four games as they defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks by the score of 13-11 on the road Sunday afternoon.
The Badgers got off to another slow start. After some heated arguments between the two sides at halftime the Badgers took it to the Golden Hawks in the third and fourth quarters.
Brock trailed 6-4 after 40 minutes and 9-5 with eight minutes left in the third quarter. Over the next eight minutes, the Badgers offense came alive adding six unanswered goals to take an 11-9 lead after three quarters. In the fourth quarter Brock added two more consecutive goals to take a commanding 13-9 lead with just five minutes left in regulation.
Leading the Badgers offense was junior Chris Nash (Toronto, Ont.) who added three goals and one assist for four points. Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, Ont.) contributed with three goals while seniors Matt Evans (Peterborough, Ont.) and Todd Duncan (Toronto, Ont.) chipped in with two goals each. Dustin Dunn (Peterborough, Ont.), Jamie Cassells (Scarborough, Ont.) and Mike Bentivenga (Burlington, Ont.) all added single markers in the victory.
In goal freshman Ian Duffy (Ajax, Ont.) got his first start of his university career turning aside 10 shots for the victory.
