The Brock University men's hockey team will be on the road this weekend when they take on the Concordia Stingers October 14th and UQTR Patriotes October 15th.
In their opening week of the regular season, the Badgers posted a 1-1 record defeating the Carleton Ravens by the score of 6-3 and dropping a 7-3 decision against the Queen's Gaels.
Leading the offense was sophomore Jordan Gignac who recorded four points adding three goals and one assist. Sophomore Thomas Stajan (2G, 1A) and senior Isaac Smeltzer (1G, 2A) both contributed with three points each.
In goal, Kurt Jory posted a 1-1 record with a 5.00 GAA and .818 save percentage registering 45 saves in his first two starts.
Concordia
Concordia began the 2011-12 regular season with an 0-2 record losing to the Windsor Lancers back-to-back nights by scores of 4-3 (OT) and 9-4. This week the Patriotes have three games against UQTR (Oct. 12), Brock (Oct. 14) and Laurier (Oct. 15).
Leading the Concordia offense are Eric Begin (1G, 2A), George Lovatsis (1G, 2A) and Charles-Antoine Messier (3A) who all registered three points in their first two contests.
The Stingers split goaltending duties in Week One, with Nicholas Champion (0-1, 3.69 GAA, .920 SV%) and Peter Karvouniaris (0-1, 9.00 GAA, .820 SV%).
UQTR
UQTR opened the season with a 1-1 dropping their season opener to the Waterloo Warriors 5-3, before registering their first victory with a 7-3 win over the Guelph Gryphons. This week the Patriotes have three home games against Concordia (Oct. 12), Laurier (Oct. 14) and Brock (Oct. 15).
Leading the UQTR offense are Olivier Donovan (1G, 3A) and Pierre-Alexandre Joncas (4A) who added four points each in the opening weekend. Alexandre Demers (1G, 2A) and Charles Bety (2G) round out their team leaders.
In goal, Guillaume Nadeau posted a 1-1 record with a 3.52 GAA and .897 save percentage registering 61 saves in his first two starts.
Last Meeting vs Concordia
In their last meeting on Friday, November 19, 2010, the Badgers defeated Concordia by the score of 8-2. That night, sophomore Kaine Geldart recorded his first career hat trick finishing with three goals and one assist while the 2010-11 OUA West Rookie of the Year Matt Abercrombie had a five-point night adding two goals and three assists.
Last Meeting vs UQTR
The last regular season meeting between these two teams dates back to January 9, 2009 which saw the Patriotes defeat Brock by the score of 4-1 at Le Colisee. Only five players from that Brock team is on the 2011-12 roster including Steve Miller, Isaac Smeltzer, Dan Dooley, Ryan Allen and Derek Brochu.
