Brock adds former IceDogs veteran MacEachern
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey program is pleased to announce the addition of Mississauga native Dylan MacEachern for the upcoming 2011-12 CIS season.
The six-foot, 185 pound, left-winger will return to St. Catharines, the city he spent most of his junior hockey career, as a member of the Ontario Hockey League's Niagara IceDogs.
"I am very excited to returning to the St. Catharines area and play for a very well respected coach and team at Brock," said Dylan. "To play three and a half seasons with the IceDogs, was everything I could have asked for right from the Burke's down to the training staff. I enjoyed every second of it. Playing in London for the Knights gave me the extended experience playing in front of storied NHL coaches and a great organization. Brock is the perfect fit for me and I am excited to meet everyone involved with the program as well as experiencing campus student life!"
"We are looking forward to adding Dylan to our lineup," said Brock head coach Murray Nystrom. "He has been a player we've been able to follow for the past few years so we are pleased that he feels that Brock University is the best place for him to continue his hockey career and earn a degree."
MacEachern played four seasons in the OHL, with the IceDogs and London Knights. He appeared in 277 career games where he registered 22 goals and 34 assists for 56 career points. He also collected 169 penalty minutes.
"On behalf of the entire IceDogs organization we would like to congratulate Dylan on joining the Brock Badgers," said IceDogs owners Bill and Denise Burke. "Dylan was a great ambassador and leader for the IceDogs and Brock will be extremely lucky to have him. We are happy to have Dylan back in Niagara and hope to see him at IceDogs games in the future."
The Mississauga native joins a Badgers team that is returning 19 players from a successful 2010-11 season and is positioned to be a challenger for the OUA title again. MacEachern is the first Ice Dogs player to graduate to Brock since 2007 when Nathan Hooper joined the Badgers and helped lead the team to its first appearance at the CIS National Championship tournament in 2008.
"Dylan was well respected by his peers, coaches and staff. He will fit in well with what we try to accomplish in the classroom, on the ice and in the community. We anticipate Dylan being on campus in mid-August so that he is available to provide instruction during our August Skills Camp," Nystrom added.
The Badgers will be officially releasing the 2011-12 schedule, including the Annual RBC Asset Management/ RBC Dominion Securities Steel Blade Tournament, in early June.
