Brock's Abercrombie wins OUA West Rookie of the Year

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock Badgers men's hockey program is celebrating as teammate Matt Abercrombie (Sarnia, Ont.) was named OUA West Rookie of the Year and a member of the OUA West All-Rookie team earlier this week.

Abercrombie had a remarkable rookie campaign to earn the award tallying 18 goals and 14 assists.  His 32 points was tops among OUA West rookies and third among all OUA rookies.  Additionally, Abercrombie was tied for second in points among all OUA West players. Abercrombie's 18 goals was also good enough for tops in the OUA West and third among all OUA players.

On the year, Abercrombie was also responsible for six powerplay markers and four game winning goals, both tops on the Badgers and among the OUA leaders.

Abercrombie becomes the first Badger to win the OUA West Rookie of the Year since Paul McInnes won the award following the 1996-97 season.  He also becomes the first Badger named to the West division All-Rookie team since 2006-07 when defenceman Paul Holder earned the Rookie Team nod.

Prior to joining the Badgers, Abercrombie racked up 90 points (37 G, 53 A) for the Thorold Blackhawks last season in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey, en route to the Golden Horseshoe Conference MVP award.
