No. 6 Badgers fall to No. 7 Thunderwolves 4-3
THUNDER BAY, Ont. - The No. 6 ranked Brock University men's hockey team (4-2 OUA) lost for the second straight night to the No. 7 ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves by the score of 4-3 at Fort Williams Gardens.
The Thunderwolves peppered Brock rookie netminder Mark Yetman (Mount Pearl, NL) in the first period outshooting the Badgers 21-9. Lakehead opened the scoring 10:50 into the first when Scott Dobben and Victor Anilane set up Mark Soares for his third goal of the season.
In the second period, Anilane would answer twice for the T-Wolves adding his third and fourth of the season to put Lakehead up 3-0. Brock would get a late goal from sophomore Dan Dooley (Saint John, NB) to bring it within one going into the third.
One minute into the third period Brock would make it a one goal game as junior Vince Scott (Mississauga, Ont.) and rookie Josh Schram (Paris, Ont.) set up sophomore Derek Brochu (Welland, Ont.) who beat Lakehead's Kyle Moir for his team leading fourth goal.
Three minutes later with a man advantage, Lakehead would regain the two goal lead as Adam Sergerie and Ryan Baird set up Jordan Smith for his first of the season and eventual game winner.
Brock would make it 4-3 at 7:58 of the third. With the man advantage, Joey Pell (Dryden, Ont.) and Steve Miller (Thunder Bay, Ont.) set up Gary Friesen for his first of the season.
In goal, the Badgers Yetman recorded a career high 43 saves in the loss dropping his record to 4-2-0. For the Thunderwolves Moir improves to 5-0-0 turning aside 23 of 26 brock shots.
