Men's Hockey drops 3-2 OT loss to Lakehead in season finale

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team (9-17-1 OUA) ended the 2009-10 season with a 3-2 overtime loss to the No. 8 nationally ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves (18-7-2).

The game opened with a quick powerplay goal from Lakehead's Dan Speer 2:01 into the first period.  Brock tied the game 13 seconds later on a Ryan Allen (Fort McMurray, AB) wrist shot from the slot.  Jordan Bent (St. George, NB) stopped 7 of 8 shots in the first period, including several quality chances from point blank range.

The second period started with much excitement on an early Steve Miller (Thunder Bay, ON) goal. Miller and Allen each finished the game with one goal and one assist each.  Bent stopped all five shots in the period to end the period 2-1 Brock in a packed Seymour Hannah Complex.

Lakehead's Matt Caria tied the game on a powerplay goal 12:25 into the third period, on a scramble to the right of Bent.  The Thunderwolves barraged the Brock net, directing 16 shots towards the Badger goaltender. Bent stopped 12 of 13 to finish regulation tied 2-2.

Ryan Stephenson (Belmont, ON) had a chance early into the overtime period, with a hard shot from the high slot.  Brock had a bit of bad luck as the linesman dropped the puck before Brock center, Gary Friesen (Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON) was prepared.  Lakehead won the faceoff back to Jordan Smith at the point. Mark Soares would then deflect Smith's point shot over the shoulder of Bent to make the final score 3-2 Lakehead.

The Brock Badgers would like to thank everyone who supported the team throughout the season. The Brock Men's Hockey Team looks forward to working hard in the offseason in order to return next season.
