No. 9 Waterloo rallies past Badgers 6-4
WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team lost to the No. 9 ranked Waterloo Warriors by the score of 6-4 Saturday night at the Columbia Ice Field.
Brock added two goals in the first period and one early in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Ryan Stephenson (Belmont, Ont.), Ryan Tolles (Toledo, OH), and Dan Dooley (Saint John, NB) all added single markers.
Waterloo would answer with three goals in the final 13 minutes of the second period, tying the game 3-3 after 40 minutes. Chris Ray would add his team leading 18th of the season while Steve Whitley registered his 8th and 9th goals of the campaign both coming on the power-play.
24 seconds into the third period, Waterloo's Shane Hart would add a shorthanded marker beating Brock freshman goaltender Jordan Bent (St. George, NB) for his 13th of the season to take a 4-3 lead.
Less than three minutes later, Brock's Dooley would register his second of the game as he buried it behind Waterloo's Keaton Hartigan to even the score 4-4.
The Warriors power-play would go to work once again at 8:20 of the third, as Mark Hartman and Kyle Sonnenberg setup Jarrett Schnurr for his 5th of the season which would prove to be the game winner.
With just 34 seconds remaining, the Warriors Cory Fraser added an insurance goal for the 6-4 victory.
In goal, Bent recorded a career high 42 saves in the loss while Hartigan turned aside 26 Brock shots for the victory.
