Badgers routed by No.9 Golden Hawks 4-2
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team
(8-10-0-0) were overwhelmed by the CIS 9th ranked Wilfrid Laurier
Golden Hawks (13-4-2-0) by the score of 4-2 in their first regular
season game of 2010.
In a game which was very physically tentative for the majority,
ended with a melee behind the Laurier net compiling a combined 46
minutes and a game misconduct for each team. Brock had lost their
last meeting with Laurier by a score of 3-2 on November 27,
2009.
The Badgers surrendered the game’s first goal at 8:50 of the
first period on the powerplay off of a deflection by Bonneville.
Bonneville also scored Laurier’s second goal on the powerplay
at 2:48 of the second period. The Hawks went ahead by three goals
on an open-net two-on-one play by Peacock.
Laurier exploited Brock’s poor defensive coverage one more
time as Williams scored a shorthanded breakaway goal at 8:15 of the
second period.
Brock began to battle back at 16:10 of the second period, as Ryan
Allen (Fort McMurray, AB) shovelled in a rebound from an Eric
Toonders (Winchester, ON) point shot to put Brock on the board. At
0:54 into the third period, Steve Mullin (Guelph, ON) scored on an
open-net after a wide Adam Schwark (Saskatoon, SK) wraparound
attempt.
The Badgers could not muster any more offense against a strong
Laurier Golden Hawks team, making the final score 4-2 Laurier.
Brock’s next regular season home game will take place on
January 9, 2010 against the Guelph Gryphons, 7:35 pm at the
Seymour-Hannah Centre
