Men's Hockey falls to York Lions 3-2

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team (7-7-0) took on the York Lions (6-7-1) on Saturday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre. Jordan Bent (St. George, NB) received his second start as a Badger and preformed well holding the Lions to 3 goals.

The first period took place mostly in neutral zone as both teams tested out the defense in front of them. Each goalie made six saves in order end the period in 0-0 tie.

The first goal of the game came early in the second period as York's Jesse Grespan blocked a clearing pass and walked in all alone on Bent giving York a 1-0 lead. Play went back in forth, before Tyler Harrison was able to put the Lions up by two as he capitalized on an opportunity from the slot.

The comeback began with just minutes left in the second period. Kyle McNeil (Cambridge, Ont.) hammered home a slap shot as line mate Brad Flynn (New Glascow, N.S.) setup a textbook screen in front of a helpless Lions goalie.

York added another tally midway through the third period, extending their lead to 4-2. The Badgers did not give up, and Isaac Smelzter (Estevan, Sask.) let a howitzer go that squeaked through and Steve Mulling (Guelph, Ont.) tapped it to the back of the net bringing them back within one. Unfortunately, it was not in the cards and Brock dropped their second straight one-goal game.

Brock's next home game will take place on December 2, 2009 against the Guelph Gryphons, 7:35 pm at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
