Men's Hockey stumped by Windsor in a 4-2 defeat
The Brock University men's hockey team (4-3-0-0) fell to the Windsor Lancers (1-5-0-0) in the first game of a double header taking place at the Seymour Hannah Centre this weekend. Brock carried the play for most of the game, but ran into a hot Windsor goaltender in the form of Jim Watt (Edmonton, AB).
Steve Mullin (Guelph, ON) opened the scoring just 2:42 into the first period beating Watt high glove side. The Badgers continued to press and managed to outshoot Windsor 12-6 in the opening frame, but due to penalty trouble, Matt McCready (Kingsville, ON) managed to tie the game with a power play goal from the point.
Windsor took full advantage of all scoring opportunities earning two more unanswered goals in the second period, while Watt stuffed Brock at every opportunity. Despite holding a huge advantage in puck possession, at the end of two, Brock found themselves in a two-goal deficit.
Joey Pell (Dryden, ON) made it a one-goal game at the 2:52 mark of the first, as he fired a shot from the point that would go off a skate and in. Windsor managed to find an answer, when a puck hopped over the Brock defensemen's stick and sent Kyle Tront (Thunder Bay, ON) on a clear breakaway. Tront buried his first of the year to give Windsor a 4-2 edge. The Lancers managed to keep Brock at bay and earn their first victory of the year.
The Brock Badgers will play the Windsor Lancers again tomorrow, November 1, 2009 at the Seymour Hannah Centre. The puck will drop at 2:05 pm.
