Men's Hockey gears up for second half of regular schedule
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team
prepares this week for the second half of the 2008-09 OUA season
which begins this Saturday night January 3rd at home versus OUA
Western Division rival the University of Western Ontario Mustangs.
Game time is scheduled for 7:35 pm at the Seymour-Hannah
Centre.
Making his first appearance this weekend in over a year after
suffering a major ankle injury will be goalkeeper Tom Lee (Port
Perry, Ont.). He replaces rookie standout Kurt Jory (Brandon, Ont.)
who was injured versus Windsor prior to the holiday break.
The Badgers, who enter the second half of the season in first place
in the OUA Mid-West Division (7-6-0-3), have had a balanced offense
this season led by rookie defenseman Isaac Smeltzer (Estevan, SK)
who leads the team with 11 points (2G, 9A).
Freshman Adam Schwark (Saskatoon, SK) (6G, 4A) and sophomore Ryan
Allen (Fort McMurray, AB) (5G, 5A) are tied for second in team
scoring with 10 points each.
Junior Nathan Hooper (Hamilton, Ont.) (8G, 1A), freshman Derek
Brochu (Welland, Ont.) (6G, 3A) and sophomore Gary Friesen
(Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.) (2G, 7A) have all registered nine
points each in the first half.
