Brock Mens Hockey Downed 4-1 by #2 UQTR
TROIS-RIVIERES, Que. – The Brock University Men’s
Hockey team (7-8-3-0) faced off against the University de Quebec
Trois Rivieres (UQTR) Patriotes (16-1-1-0) in the opening game for
the teams three game road trip. UQTR is first place in the OUA
entering the game with only one regular season loss. A highly
offensive team led by Jonathan Boutin who leads the OUA in scoring
with 35 points in 16 games.
Throughout the first period UQTR maintained an advantage in both
shots and scoring chances. Despite the plethora of chances, Tommy
Lee (Port Perry, Ont.) managed to hold UQTR to a single goal, which
came midway through the period as Francis Charland was allowed to
walk out from the corner on the power play.
As the second period progressed UQTR’s was able to capitalize
on a few of their scoring chances. Mathieu Simoneau extended the
Patriotes lead to two, as he walked off the half boards and blasted
a cannon by Lee. Only a minute later UQTR was back at it with
Boutin and Alexandre Demers walking in on a 2-on-1 with Boutin
receiving the feed to make it a 3-0 game.
In the final stanza, Brock picked up the pace and began to press
UQTR. Although Brock began to control the play Samuel Beland was
able to hammer home a loose puck putting UQTR ahead 4-0. This time
it would be Brock who scored less then a minute later as George
Bradley (Burlington, Ont.) picked the top corner on a point shot
breaking Jean-Christophe Blanchard’s shutout. It would too
little, too late for Brock and UQTR would take the 4-1 win.
