Men's Basketball drops 74-70 decision to UQAM
MONTREAL - The Brock University men's basketball team (3-5 OUA West) ended 2009 with a 74-70 loss to the tournament host Montreal Carabins. The Badgers finish with a 1-2 record.
With the score tied 60-60 with 7:52 left in the fourth quarter, the Carabins would put together a 7-0 run over the nex two minutes to go up 67-60. The young Brock squad would answer with five points of their own trailing by two 67-65 with four minutes left in regulation. Brock would make it a one point game 69-68 after a three-pointer from Joel Whitty at 3:28 but would never be able to regain the lead as they dropped their second game of the tournament by four points or less. Neither team scored in the final 1:36 of the final quarter.
Freshman Clinton Springer-Williams (London, Ont.) led the way with 18 points. Freshman Andrew Cicuttini (Dundas, Ont.) contributed with 12 points and six rebounds. Whitty and Mike Cruickshank (Toronto, Ont.) added nine and eight points respectively.
Four of the five Montreal starters were in double figures led by Adil El Makssoud who recorded 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Brock returns to action for the second half of the OUA season on Wednesday, January 6th at the Bob Davis Gymnasium when they play host to the Waterloo Warriors at 8:00pm. This will be Ken Murray's 1000th career game as a head coach.
