Springer-Williams leads Badgers over Franklin College 93-78
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (1-3 overall) defeated Franklin College by the score of 93-78 at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Friday night.
The Badgers trailed Franklin by one at the half 37-36. In the second half, Brock came out flying as the duo of freshman Clinton Springer-Williams (London, Ont.) and sophomore Didi Mukendi (St. Catharines, Ont.) combined for 33 of the Badgers 57 second half points. Brock shot 64.5% from the field in the final 20 minutes going 21-for-30.
Leading the Badgers was Springer-Williams who led all scorers with a career high 34 points going 13-for-17 from the field and perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. He also added five assists and five rebounds.
Mukendi registered 23 points while collecting six assists and four steals. The other Brock player in double figures was sophomore Mark Gibson (Toronto, Ont.) who contributed with 11 points and five rebounds. In his first start as a Badger, college transfer Phil Ramirez (St. Catharines, Ont.) chipped in with six points, six assists, two steals and three rebounds in the victory.
Leading Franklin was Zach Merschbrock who recorded 30 points and nine rebounds while going 12-for-19 from the field.
Brock shot 51.5% from the field going 34-for-66 while keeping Franklin to just 38.0% (27-for-71). The Badgers were also able to capitalize on turnovers outscoring Franklin 31-13 in points off turnovers.
The Badgers will play three more non-conference games at the Bob Davis Gymnasium prior to the start of the OUA regular season on November 6th.
