Men's Basketball drops 86-82 decision to Findlay
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball
team went on a late 10-2 run only to come up short by the score of
86-82 against the University of Findlay, the defending NCAA
Division II Champions.
The Badgers trailed by as many as 14 points early in the fourth
quarter 74-60. With just over two in a half minutes left Brock went
on a 10-2 run to bring the game within two points 84-82.
After four straight missed free throws by the Oilers Marcus Parker,
Brock would get the ball in the hands of freshman Clinton
Springer-Williams (London, Ont.) who would turn it over under
pressure in the final 15 seconds. Findlay's Aaron Robinson would
knock down two free throws and get the ball back in the final five
seconds after he was intentionally fouled by Brock's Didi Mukendi
(St. Catharines, Ont.).
In his debut, Springer-Williams led all scorers with 30 points
including going 14-for-17 from the charity stripe. Also in double
figures were Mukendi with 16 points and five rebounds and junior
Jordan Johnson (Greensville, Ont.) who added 10 points and seven
rebounds.
For Findlay, Jack Smith recorded 29 points and six rebounds. Nathan
Hyde contributed with 14 points while Aaron Robinson and Greg Avery
chipped in with 12 points each in the victory.
The Badgers next action is next weekend when they take part in the Laurier Invitational Tournament. Findlay ends their Canadian trip Sunday against the University of Toronto.
