Men's Basketball drops 78-65 decision to Laurier ending season

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (8-12 OUA West) had their OUA playoff hopes end Wednesday night as they dropped a 78-65 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks. With the loss, the Badgers are mathematically eliminated from the OUA playoffs.

The lone Brock highlight was freshman standout Clinton Springer-Williams (London, Ont.) who was one point shy of tying the school single game record registering a career best 40 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double. He finished the game going 14-for-21 from the field and 10-for-11 from the charity stripe.

Brock got behind early as Laurier went on a 10-2 run in the final six minutes of the first quarter leading 17-6 after 10 minutes. In the final five minutes of the second quarter, the Badgers put together an 11-4 run of their own trailing by four at the half 31-27.

With 6:47 left in the third quarter, Brock trailed 37-33, before the Golden Hawks went on a 13-4 run over the next three minutes leading by as many as 13 points, 50-37, with three minutes left in the third quarter.

Brock would cut the lead to nine points in the final frame, but that was as close as they would come as Laurier sweeps the season series.

Laurier had three starters in double figures led by Jesse MacDonald who recorded 18 points and seven assists. Kale Harrison contributed with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Matthew Buckley chipped in with 14 points and six boards in the victory.

Brock ends the 2009-10 season at home Saturday, February 20th at 3pm when they host the Guelph Gryphons at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
